Colombia Aims to Boost Green Hydrogen Production Amid Challenges in Infrastructure and Costs
HYDROGEN
Colombia's President Gustavo Petro emphasizes the country's potential in green hydrogen production, aiming to expand capacity significantly by 2030. Current production has increased twelvefold, largely driven by Ecopetrol.
Major projects include the Coral plant in Cartagena, which will produce 800 tons of hydrogen annually. However, challenges persist in infrastructure, pricing, and social issues in regions like La Guajira. The government is investing over $40 billion into hydrogen initiatives and plans to enhance desalination technologies alongside hydrogen production.
