Construction Begins on $114 Million Yen Bai 1 Biomass Power Plant in Lao Cai, Vietnam
The Yen Bai 1 biomass power plant, a 50-megawatt project valued at approximately 114 million USD, commenced construction on December 19 in Dong Cuong commune, Lao Cai province. Developed by Erex Yen Bai Biomass Power Co.
Ltd. and supported by Japan's Erex Group, the project is part of a bilateral initiative with Japan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The plant will utilize agricultural and forestry by-products as fuel and is projected to generate about 300 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually, starting commercial operations in early 2028.
The project aligns with local socio-economic strategies, aiming to enhance industrial output, supply the national grid, create jobs, and improve local revenues. Officials encourage the investor to ensure timely construction while adhering to Vietnamese regulations.
