Crematoria Twente to Conduct Netherlands' First Hydrogen-Powered Cremation by 2026
HYDROGENNATURAL GAS
Crematoria Twente plans to conduct the Netherlands' first hydrogen-powered cremation by retrofitting a cremation oven in Enschede, with trials expected to start by late 2026. Funded by the EU, the project aims to evaluate the safety, emissions, and reliability of using green hydrogen as a carbon-neutral alternative to natural gas, which currently fuels around 120,000 annual cremations in the country. This initiative aligns with broader sustainability goals in the funeral sector and may impact other industries that depend on high-temperature processes.
