CREW Carbon Partners with East Coast Wastewater Plants for Carbon Removal Using Limestone
CARBON CAPTURE
CREW Carbon, a New Haven startup, is partnering with East Coast wastewater treatment plants to implement a carbon removal method using limestone, which reacts with carbon dioxide to produce bicarbonate ions for ocean storage. This approach, aimed at removing thousands of tons of CO2 annually, has led to the sale of carbon removal credits and is expected to help municipalities with cost savings and improved water quality. Founded by Yale graduates in 2022, CREW Carbon plans to remove approximately 70,000 tons of CO2 in the coming years, although concerns about long-term impacts remain.
