Cyclone Halts Ambatovy's Cobalt and Nickel Production in Madagascar
STRATEGIC MINERALS
Cyclone damage has halted operations at Ambatovy, Madagascar's cobalt and nickel producer, potentially impacting global prices. Owned by Sumitomo Corp and KOMIR, Ambatovy produced approximately 28,000 metric tons of nickel and 2,500 tons of cobalt in 2024.
The cyclone severely affected Toamasina port, disrupting exports. Ambatovy is assessing damages and will resume operations once safety conditions are verified.
