Department of Energy Allocates $134 Million to Advance U.S. Fusion Energy Initiatives
NUCLEAR
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has announced a $134 million funding initiative to bolster American leadership in fusion technologies, dividing the funds between the Fusion Innovative Research Engine (FIRE) and the Innovation Network for Fusion Energy (INFUSE).
While the FIRE initiative receives the bulk of the funding, INFUSE will support 20 projects aimed at enhancing private sector collaboration in fusion energy development. Despite skepticism about the feasibility of commercial fusion power, the DOE emphasizes the potential of fusion to provide reliable energy amidst growing energy demands.
