Development of Predictive CFD Tools for Hydrogen and Methanol-Fueled Off-Road Engines
HYDROGEN
As of March 2024, a project focused on developing predictive computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tools for hydrogen and methanol-fueled off-road engines has secured $600,000 in funding from the Department of Energy, alongside $450,000 in industry cost-sharing for FY24. The initiative seeks to enhance understanding of the impacts of low-carbon fuels.
Key achievements thus far include identifying deficiencies in hydrogen mixing models, assessing shortcomings in combustion models, and completing direct numerical simulation setups. The project's timeline extends through August 2027.
