DRC Approves 222 MW Solar Project for Kamoa Copper Mine
STRATEGIC MINERALSENERGY STORAGE
The Electricity Sector Regulatory Authority of the DRC approved a solar project by CrossBoundary Energy to supply power to the Kamoa mine. The project includes a 222 MWp solar plant with a 123 MVA battery storage system, expected to generate 300,000 MWh annually while reducing CO₂ emissions by 78,750 tons.
Kamoa Copper S.A. and CrossBoundary Energy signed a power purchase agreement in April 2025. The project aims to enhance electricity access in a region with only 22% access as of 2023.
