Eagles Consortium Initiates International Path for New Small Modular Reactor Licensing

NUCLEAR

The Eagles consortium, led by the Belgian nuclear research institute SCK CEN, has begun an international pre-licensing process for a new small modular reactor (SMR). This initiative aims to harmonize safety standards across multiple countries, including Belgium, Italy, and Romania, as part of a collaborative effort to streamline regulatory procedures.

The consortium anticipates a demonstration model to be constructed in Mol by 2034, with plans for commercial readiness by 2039. This project marks a significant step in the global race to develop new nuclear reactor technologies.
