Emerging Iron Ore Projects in Australia Diversify Supply for Green Steel Production
Australia's iron ore sector is expanding beyond Western Australia, with significant developments in South Australia, New South Wales, Tasmania, and Queensland aimed at enhancing green iron production. The Razorback project in South Australia will produce five million tonnes of premium-grade magnetite concentrates annually and is supported by Magnetite Mines' Green Iron SA consortium.
Lincoln Minerals aims for three million tonnes per year through its Green Iron initiative, which is part of South Australia's Green Iron and Steel Strategy. Iron Road's Central Eyre iron project has a resource of 4.5 billion tonnes and will produce high-grade iron concentrate.
In New South Wales, Hawsons Iron has signed offtake agreements for over 60 million tonnes per year. Queensland's Gladstone green iron project represents a $3.5 billion investment leveraging hydrogen for production. The Sherwin iron project in the Northern Territory could provide additional ore supply, showcasing Australia's potential in the green iron sector.
