Energinet Opens Capacity Sales for Danish Hydrogen Backbone 1 Infrastructure

HYDROGEN

Energinet has initiated capacity sales for the Danish Hydrogen Backbone 1, facilitating the reservation of transport capacity in a planned hydrogen pipeline from Esbjerg to Frøslev at the Danish-German border. The project aims to harness Denmark's solar and wind resources for hydrogen production, targeting industrial consumers and future exports to Germany, with construction set to begin in mid-2028 and operations expected by the end of 2030. The capacity sale, open until December 1, 2026, offers 2.7 GW of transport capacity from 2030 to 2046, contingent on a minimum booking of 0.5 GW for economic viability.
