EPA Proposes Reallocation of Biofuel Blending Obligations Amid Industry Tensions
BIOFUELS
Summit Carbon Solutions, based in Ames, Iowa, plans to construct a pipeline to capture and sequester carbon dioxide from ethanol plants across several states. Concurrently, the EPA has proposed reallocating waived biofuel blending obligations to refineries, presenting options of 50% or 100% reallocation.
Biofuel advocates support complete reallocation to maintain demand, while the oil sector opposes it due to cost concerns. The proposal has drawn criticism for its lack of clarity and may prolong conflicts between the oil and agricultural industries over U.S. energy policy.
