EPA Proposes Rollback of Greenhouse Gas Reporting Requirements, Impacting Industrial Emissions Transparency

CARBON CAPTURE

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proposed a rule to significantly reduce greenhouse gas reporting requirements for approximately 8,000 industrial facilities, primarily in the petroleum and natural gas sectors.

This move, defended by Administrator Lee Zeldin as a necessary deregulation, aims to alleviate burdens on businesses and could save them an estimated $2.4 billion over the next decade. However, critics warn that this could undermine transparency and accountability in climate policy, especially as the carbon management industry relies heavily on existing reporting frameworks. Public comments on the proposal will be accepted for 47 days.
