EPR Via Mineira Offsets 360 Tons of CO₂ in First Year of BR-040 Concession
EPR Via Mineira completed its greenhouse gas emissions inventory for the first year of the BR-040 concession, between Belo Horizonte and Juiz de Fora, compensating 360 tons of CO₂ equivalent from August to December 2024. This initiative is part of the Carbon Neutral Program mandated by the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT), requiring annual emissions assessments and corresponding offsets.
The inventory considered emissions from energy consumption, vehicle operations, and incidents of burning within the road's right-of-way. The compensation for 2024 was achieved through purchasing carbon credits from the Macaúbas Sanitary Landfill project in Sabará (MG), operational since 2013, which captures biogas from solid waste decomposition. The credits are certified by the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) under the United Nations, resulting in a Voluntary Cancellation Certificate from the UNFCCC.
