ESCOM Receives 12 Units of 20MW Battery Energy Storage System in Lilongwe for Improved Power Supply

The Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) has received 12 units of a 20MW Battery Energy Storage System in Lilongwe, aimed at enhancing the country's energy stability. Funded by a $20.245 million grant from the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet, the system will help regulate frequency, integrate renewable energy, and reduce load shedding. The project is set for commissioning in February 2026, representing a significant advancement in Malawi's power infrastructure.
