European Commission Approves €3.1 Billion Spanish Aid for High-Efficiency Power Plants

HYDROGENNATURAL GASBIOFUELS

The European Commission has approved a €3.1 billion aid scheme for Spain to support high-efficiency power plants, focusing on combined heat and power (CHP) projects that utilize natural gas, bioliquids, biogas, and solid biomass. The initiative mandates that natural gas projects incorporate at least 10% renewable hydrogen, aligning with the EU's climate goals to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and achieve climate neutrality by 2050. The program, which will run for 10 years, aims to provide financial support for qualifying CHP installations under the EU's Energy Efficiency Directive.
