First Nickel Mine Project in British Columbia Aims for 2034 Operation Start
STRATEGIC MINERALS
The Baptiste nickel mine project in British Columbia could begin operations by 2034, following public consultations from February 5 to March 9. The mine, located 80 km northeast of Fort St. James, aims to increase Canada’s nickel production by 50%, providing enough nickel for 1.3 million vehicles annually.
Environmental assessments are expected by the end of 2027, with construction planned for 2030 if approved. The project involves significant engagement with local First Nations and aims to offer a greener alternative to Indonesian nickel.
