Ford Invests $2 Billion in Battery Storage; US Solar Generation to Surge in 2026-2027
STRATEGIC MINERALSENERGY STORAGE
Ford plans to invest $2 billion to establish a battery storage business unit in Kentucky, aiming for 20 GWh annual production by late 2027. The initiative includes repurposing an EV manufacturing facility and producing smaller cells in Michigan. Concurrently, the EIA projects US solar generation will increase by 17% in 2026 and 23% in 2027, as new solar capacity meets growing electricity demand, expected to rise 1.4% in 2026 and 2.5% in 2027.
