Forests Canada and Greenbelt Foundation Reach 7 Million Trees Planted in Ontario's Greenbelt

CARBON CAPTURE

Forests Canada has surpassed the milestone of 7 million trees planted in Ontario's Greenbelt since 2008, thanks to a partnership with the Greenbelt Foundation and nearly 40 planting partners. This initiative, which began in 2022, aims to enhance forest cover and ecosystems by planting 750,000 trees across the Greenbelt.

The partnership has focused on the benefits of these trees, including carbon sequestration, wildlife habitat, and water quality improvements. Notable contributors to this effort include the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority with nearly 1.3 million trees, Conservation Halton with over 900,000, and Credit Valley Conservation Authority with nearly 800,000. The Greenbelt Foundation aims to plant an additional one million trees next year.
