Former Coal Power Station in Nottinghamshire to Host Advanced Small Modular Reactor for Data Centres
NUCLEAR
The decommissioned Cottam Power Station in Nottinghamshire is set to be repurposed for a small modular reactor (SMR) aimed at supplying electricity to advanced data centres. An agreement between Holtec International, EDF UK, and Tritax will guide the development on the 900-acre site, with operational goals targeting the 2030s. This initiative is part of the UK's broader strategy to incorporate SMRs into the energy mix and revitalize former fossil fuel sites, while also stimulating job creation in manufacturing and construction.
