Fortum Partners with City of Kemi to Develop Hydrogen Hub at Ajos Industrial Site

HYDROGENSYNTHETIC FUELS

Fortum and the City of Kemi are collaborating to develop a 17-hectare industrial site on Ajos island for hydrogen production. Fortum will manage site development and investor engagement, while a separate project sponsor will make the final investment in the production facility.

The site advantages include port access, existing industrial zoning, and nearby sources of biogenic CO₂, facilitating synthetic fuel production. This initiative is part of Fortum's clean transition strategy and aims to generate jobs, tax revenues, and economic growth for the Kemi region. The project is expected to enhance regional competitiveness and attract new industrial activities, ultimately contributing to long-term economic resilience.
