Free State EXCO Addresses Water Infrastructure and Foot and Mouth Disease Outbreak
WATER INFRASTRUCTURE & DESALINATION
The Free State Executive Committee met on February 4, 2026, to discuss water supply issues and an outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD). The province has made progress in water infrastructure, with projects such as the refurbishment of water treatment works and the replacement of aging pipelines.
An investment of R1.8 billion is allocated for Matjhabeng's sanitation issues. The FMD outbreak has affected five provinces, including Free State, with 238 confirmed cases. The government is implementing control measures to curb the spread of the disease.
