FRV is advancing a 1.2GW/5GWh battery energy storage system portfolio in Spain, set to achieve 'shovel-ready' status between 2026 and 2027. The projects will be implemented across Extremadura, Andalusia, Catalonia, and Cantabria, with significant hybridisation of existing solar facilities.

Extremadura will host the largest developments, including the San Serván and Carmonita clusters. The initiative is backed by Spain's Royal Decree 997/2025, which aims to enhance energy storage capabilities in response to power system vulnerabilities.
