Funding Shortfalls Threaten Ambitious 15 Billion Tree Planting Initiative in Kenya

CARBON CAPTURE

Kenya's ambitious initiative to plant 15 billion trees by 2032 faces significant challenges due to severe funding shortfalls. As of June, only SH4 billion of the SH500 billion required has been secured, raising concerns about the sustainability of relying on third-party financing.

The government's plans hinge on external funding sources, which have yet to materialize, leading to a projected shortfall of over SH100 billion in just two years. The Kenya Forest Service indicates that without increased government support and effective resource mobilization strategies, the initiative's goals may remain unfulfilled.
