Genomines, a startup that has raised €45 million in September 2025, aims to revolutionize nickel extraction with hyperaccumulator plants. The company, founded in 2021, has a total funding of €62 million and notable investors including Engine Ventures and Hyundai Motor.

Genomines utilizes plants optimized to capture nickel from soil, offering an eco-friendly and cost-effective mining alternative. With pilot fields in South Africa's Mpumalanga region, the startup plans to produce 100,000 tonnes of nickel by 2035.
