Glendale Water & Power Transitions Intermountain Power Project to Coal-Free Energy with Hydrogen Future Plans

HYDROGENNATURAL GASCARBON CAPTURE

Glendale Water & Power (GWP) has transitioned its Intermountain Power Project (IPP) to a 100% coal-free energy resource, currently utilizing natural gas while planning for future hydrogen integration. The plant, located near Delta, Utah and operated by the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power, aims to reduce emissions and align with California's decarbonization goals, enhancing energy reliability.

GWP is securing access to a unit designed for increasing hydrogen blends, preparing for a shift from natural gas to hydrogen as technology advances. This transition supports near-zero-carbon operations, helps meet regulatory mandates, and reduces reliance on carbon credits. Key steps taken by GWP include internal modeling for SB100 compliance and collaboration with partners to clarify hydrogen conversion roles.
