The hydrogen sector has seen the final investment decision on approximately six million tonnes of clean hydrogen production capacity, yet only about 3.6 million tonnes, or 60%, has secured firm offtake agreements. According to a report by the Hydrogen Council, less than half of these agreements pertain to green hydrogen, with only 1.5 million tonnes committed compared to 2.1 million tonnes of low-carbon blue hydrogen. China accounts for a significant portion of green hydrogen capacity, with 87% of it designated for domestic customers or on-site use.
