Global Hydrogen Project Developments Face Significant Setbacks Ahead of 2030 Targets
HYDROGENCARBON CAPTURE
The International Energy Agency (IEA) reported a nearly 25% decrease in planned low-emission hydrogen projects by 2030, attributing this decline to project cancellations, rising costs, and political uncertainties. Revised estimates now forecast a production of 37 million metric tons annually, down from 49 million.
While investment decisions have increased by about 20%, only 9% of projects are currently confirmed. The report highlights a critical need for effective government policies to stimulate demand and infrastructure development to mitigate cost disparities between fossil and low-emission hydrogen.
