Hancock Discusses $380,000 Plan for Federally Mandated Water Line Inspections
STRATEGIC MINERALS
Hancock's Water Commission Chair Tom Shevenell outlined a $380,000 plan for federally mandated inspections of water lines to reduce lead exposure, as required by the 2024 Federal Lead and Copper Improvements Rule. The project involves documenting 200 customer service lines at an estimated cost of $1,500 to $2,000 each, with potential funding support from the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services. To finance this initiative, the Water Commission will seek approval at the upcoming town meeting, which may lead to a $66 increase in median residential water bills in 2026.
