The Haryana State Federation of Cooperative Sugar Mills Limited is set to establish compressed biogas plants across the state, starting with a flagship project at the Karnal Cooperative Sugar Mill, which will convert press mud into renewable energy. The mill, which produced 1.60 lakh quintals of sugar and generated significant electricity during the 2025-26 crushing season, has also paid 83.40% of its sugarcane dues, the highest in Haryana, while providing subsidized meals and modern facilities for farmers. The tender process for the biogas project is currently underway.
