Heidekrautbahn Launches Hydrogen-Powered Trains in Berlin with Siemens and Ballard Technology

The Heidekrautbahn railway line north of Berlin has launched zero-emission passenger trains powered by Ballard fuel cells, replacing diesel units with Siemens Mobility's Mireo Plus H trains. This initiative, which began regular operations in December 2024, aims to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 2,500 tons annually, while future plans include a hydrogen production facility in Wensickendorf to further enhance sustainability.
