Heidelberg Materials Develops CCS Technology at Brevik Cement Plant in Norway
CARBON CAPTURE
Heidelberg Materials has launched the world's first large-scale carbon capture facility at its Brevik cement plant in Norway, capable of capturing 400,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually for storage under the North Sea. The €400 million project, supported by Norway’s Longship climate initiative, aims to reduce the cement industry's significant contribution to global CO₂ emissions. Additionally, the company plans to build a second CCS plant in Wales, targeting an annual capture of 800,000 tonnes of CO₂ by 2029.
