Horticoop Invests in Anorel to Enhance Circular Fertilizer Production in Belgium

BIOFUELS

Horticoop has announced an investment in Belgian fertilizer producer Anorel to support its expansion of circular fertilizer production. Anorel is scaling a process to commercially produce potassium carbonate from ash, utilizing a zero-waste production method that converts residual streams from the food and biogas industries into high-quality fertilizers.

Development of this recovery technology began in 2012, and Anorel has made significant investments to prepare for scale-up, including upgrades at its production facility in Genk, Belgium. The investment aligns with Horticoop's focus on sustainability and aims to enhance Anorel's capacity to provide competitively priced circular fertilizers, responding to increasing demand for sustainable alternatives, particularly in Europe due to emissions reduction targets. Anorel will remain family-owned, with its current management overseeing operations.
