Hybrit consortium has been granted an extended temporary construction permit for a hydrogen storage pilot facility in Luleå until 2031. This facility, operational since 2022, supports fossil-free iron and steel production.

It consists of an underground chamber with a 100 cubic meter capacity, storing hydrogen equivalent to around 100 MWh of electricity. The project aims to reduce production costs by 25-40% by adapting to electricity price fluctuations.
