Hyliion Demonstrates Dynamic Fuel Switching in KARNO Power Module
Hyliion Holdings Corp. successfully demonstrated dynamic fuel switching in its KARNO Power Module, transitioning between natural gas and propane under load while maintaining continuous power generation. The KARNO system can operate on over twenty fuel types, including diesel, hydrogen, and ammonia, with real-time software adjustments to optimize performance without user interruption.
The technology offers advantages for various applications, such as eliminating the need for separate diesel backup systems in data centers, adapting to biogas variations in waste-to-energy projects, and reducing costs for rental power operators. The KARNO module's linear generator architecture uses heat as the primary energy input, ensuring ultra-low emissions and high efficiency. Full fuel compatibility will expand as commercialization progresses.
