IAEA Raises Nuclear Capacity Forecast, Predicting Significant Growth by 2050

NUCLEAR

The International Atomic Energy Agency has revised its nuclear capacity forecast, projecting a 2.6-fold increase from 377 GW in 2024 to 992 GW by 2050 in its high case scenario. This marks the fifth consecutive year of upward revisions.

The report highlights the crucial role of small modular reactors, climate investment, and regulatory collaboration. It emphasizes the importance of extending the operational lifetimes of existing reactors to offset retirements. The largest capacity growth is expected in Central and Eastern Asia, with significant increases across various regions.
