IIT Bombay and NTPC Complete India's First Geological CO2 Storage Well in Jharkhand

CARBON CAPTURE

IIT Bombay and NTPC have successfully completed India's first geological well for CO2 storage in Jharkhand, a significant step in carbon capture technology. Initiated in November 2022 under NITI Aayog, the project aims to assess the feasibility of carbon capture and storage (CCS) with preliminary studies suggesting the North Karanpura coalfield could store up to 15.5 million tonnes of CO2 over a decade, supporting India's net-zero commitments.
