The Illinois General Assembly has passed the CRGA, which requires the Illinois Power Agency to create a Storage Procurement Plan by 2027, including an initial procurement of over 1 GW of energy storage by August 2026. The legislation lifts the ban on nuclear plant construction for facilities over 300 MW and mandates collaboration among agencies to assess future electricity needs, while also establishing programs for geothermal energy and virtual power plant tariffs.
