Incheon City to Secure Carbon Credits Through Blue Carbon Utilizing Marine Resources

CARBON CAPTURE

Incheon Metropolitan City aims to secure carbon credits by utilizing blue carbon from its extensive tidal flats and marine resources. The Fisheries Resources Research Institute has been conducting research on seagrasses and saltmarshes to develop carbon reduction measures since 2005.

The city plans to participate in a Korea-US joint project for seaweed biomass production, receiving KRW 41 billion over five years. The emphasis on blue carbon aligns with national goals for greenhouse gas reductions by 2030.
