India Achieves 19.24% Ethanol Blending in Petrol for ESY 2024-25, Targets 20% by 2025-26

India has blended over 1,000 crore litres of ethanol during the Ethanol Supply Year (ESY) 2024-25, achieving an average blending of 19.24% in petrol, with a peak of 19.97% in October. The National Policy on Biofuels-2018, updated in 2022, aims for 20% ethanol blending by ESY 2025-26.

Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies reached 10% blending in June 2022, surpassing previous targets. The government has implemented measures to ensure ethanol production, including expanding feedstock sources, adjusting the GST rate to 5%, and allocating 52 Lakh Metric Tonnes of surplus rice and 40 Lakh Metric Tonnes of sugar for ethanol production for ESY 2024-25. The Pradhan Mantri JI-VAN Yojana, amended in 2024, supports advanced biofuel projects with funding of up to Rs 150 crore for commercial projects.
