India Achieves 20% Ethanol Blending in Petrol Five Years Ahead of 2030 Target
BIOFUELS
India achieved a significant milestone by reaching 20% ethanol blending in petrol by July 2025, five years ahead of its 2030 target, up from just 1.5% in 2014. This increase in ethanol production, which soared from 380 million liters to 6.61 billion liters, has saved approximately Rs36 lakh crore in foreign exchange and provided substantial economic benefits to the domestic biofuel industry and farmers. However, concerns remain regarding the potential impact on water resources and vehicle engine integrity amid allegations of conflicts of interest among government officials.
