India Announces Tax Holiday for Foreign Data Centre Developers Amid Mineral Supply Concerns
STRATEGIC MINERALS
India's Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a tax holiday until 2047 for foreign data centre developers to enhance cloud services and address critical mineral demands. While this initiative has the support of the data centre sector, concerns about infrastructure and the availability of essential minerals like copper and aluminium persist, as India relies heavily on imports. In response, the government has launched Khanij Bidesh India Ltd to secure overseas mineral supplies, while industry leaders like Vedanta and Hindalco are ramping up investments in domestic production.
