India's Department of Space is set to launch its first quantum communication satellite, SAQTI, by 2026 as part of the National Quantum Mission, which aims to secure communications over distances of up to 2000 kilometers using quantum key distribution. Approved in April 2023 with a budget of ₹6,003.65 crore, the initiative focuses on advancing quantum technologies and enhancing national security against cyber threats. Collaborations with institutions like the Raman Research Institute will support the development of infrastructure for quantum communication networks by 2030.
