India to Launch National Container Shipping Line by 2030, Aiming for Self-Reliance in Maritime Sector

Union Minister Shantanu Thakur announced plans for India to establish a national container shipping line by 2030, enhancing domestic shipbuilding capabilities. The initiative aims for 50% of container vessels to be produced locally by 2035.
Thakur emphasized the importance of green shipping and maritime development, highlighting a 320% growth in inland waterway cargo since 2014. India targets a 5% share of the global shipbuilding market by 2030, with plans for ten world-class shipyards and a focus on sustainable practices and innovative technologies.
