India's Government Initiates Development of Fuel Efficiency Norms for Two-Wheelers

HYDROGEN

The Indian government is developing fuel efficiency regulations for the two-wheeler market as part of a broader effort to reduce crude oil imports and achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2070. The discussions involve the Ministry of Road Transport, Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Bureau of Indian Standards, and NITI Aayog.

While early in the process, these regulations aim to nudge manufacturers towards cleaner vehicle options. With two-wheelers comprising a significant portion of new vehicle registrations, the push for improved fuel efficiency could also promote the adoption of electric and biofuel technologies.
