India's Ministry of Power has released the Draft National Electricity Policy 2026, which aims to elevate per capita electricity consumption to 2,000 kWh by 2030 and over 4,000 kWh by 2047. The policy focuses on expanding non-fossil fuel energy capacity to 500 GW and nuclear power to 100 GW, while promoting reliability through a 'Resource Adequacy' approach and encouraging energy storage systems. Additionally, it seeks to enhance the financial sustainability of DISCOMs and ensure a 24×7 quality power supply, emphasizing cybersecurity and digital transparency.
