India's Rooftop Solar Market Surpasses 23 GW Amid Policy and Technological Advancements
ENERGY STORAGE
India's rooftop solar capacity has exceeded 23 GW, contributing to a total of over 132 GW installed solar capacity. In 2025, nearly 7.9 GW of rooftop capacity was added. The Union Budget 2026-27 allocated over INR 30,500 crore to solar programs, reflecting strong policy support for decentralized solar adoption.
Technological advancements, including higher-efficiency solar modules and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), are transforming rooftop solar into integrated energy systems, enhancing reliability and efficiency. The growth is driven by initiatives like the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, aimed at increasing residential solar installations.
