Indonesia Advances Nuclear Energy Initiative with Support from the U.S. and Japan
NUCLEAR
The Indonesian government has completed a feasibility study for its inaugural nuclear energy project, collaborating with the U.S. and Japan. Chief Economic Affairs Minister Airlangga Hartarto emphasized that small modular reactors (SMRs) could facilitate the country's energy transition.
The planned 70-megawatt SMR is expected to take about four years to construct, although it won't be operational until after 2029. The strategic partnership aims to enhance Indonesia's nuclear capabilities, with additional interest from other countries in developing nuclear facilities in the region.
