Indonesia Aims to Become World Leader in Geothermal Energy with Significant Resource Potential
HYDROGENGEOTHERMAL
Indonesia holds substantial geothermal energy potential of 23,742 megawatts, positioning it as the second-largest producer globally. With only 10% of this potential currently harnessed, the government is expediting regulatory reforms and simplifying permits to attract investment.
The 2025-2034 electricity supply plan includes building 48,000 kilometers of transmission lines to support renewable energy growth. Recent agreements at the Indonesia International Geothermal Convention Exhibition aim to enhance cooperation and investment in geothermal energy, targeting a capacity increase to 4 gigawatts by 2030.
