Inlyte Energy Completes Factory Acceptance Test for Iron-Sodium Battery with Southern Company

ENERGY STORAGE

Inlyte Energy has successfully completed a factory acceptance test of its first full-scale iron-sodium battery storage system at its facility in Derby, UK. The test, observed by representatives from Southern Company, validated the performance and integration readiness of the battery system.

This marks a significant milestone ahead of the planned installation at Southern Company's Energy Storage Test Site in Wilsonville, Alabama, in early 2026. The tested battery system features the world's largest sodium metal chloride cells, capable of storing over 300 kilowatt-hours of energy and achieving 83% round-trip efficiency. Inlyte Energy aims to advance U.S. manufacturing and is finalizing site selection for its first domestic production facility in 2026, in partnership with HORIEN Salt Battery Solutions, with commercial deliveries expected in 2027.
